Minutes
of the DMTF Board Meeting
February 7, 2002, DMTV Studios
In attendance: President, Pete Glaser;
Treasurer, Walt Beerle; Vice-president, Garry Shirts; Member, Susan
Switzer; Advisory, Ned Augustenborg of Adelphia and Joe Hoefgen of the
City of Del Mar.
The meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m.
Minutes from the December 6, 2001 meeting were
approved.
GRANTS
Pete Glaser announced a new grant tracking system
to better measure payments against approvals. He noted that one
production, Starry Nights produced by Luana Karr, was omitted
from the list and should be added. Walt Beerle will update this list
monthly.
In terms of pending grant applications, Pete
reminded producers that part of their production budget should be
allocated to promoting their show and that Edward Kramer’s promo
proposal would therefore comprise a sample station ID and consistent
DMTF credit language for all productions; $200 was awarded to Kramer.
Future grant applications will be circulated to the
Board via email making the grant review committee unnecessary. A sample
of an effective proposal will be added to the website so that potential
producers can see exactly what is required.
JOE HOEFGEN and DAVE DRUKER drafted a letter to
Adelphia requesting that a viable interface with Time Warner be
established so that shows can be distributed more widely.
NICOLE HOLLIDAY was named to the Foundation Board.
Mrs. Holliday has entertainment business experience, as well as
advertising and media, and she is a Del Mar resident. She will be
formally welcomed to the Board at the next meeting.
MONTE CARLO
A stay at Lake Como is being arranged as part of
the raffle prize trip to the “real” Monte Carlo and, also new this
year, up to 300 additional tickets will be sold to people who do not
attend the event. Event and dinner sponsors, of
$5000 and $3000 respectively, are being sought -- as well as
table sponsors at $300 each. A Save-the-Date (April 20, 2002) card will
be mailed to a select list.
COUNTY GRANT
The Del Mar Television Foundation has been awarded
a grant of $10,000 from the San Diego Cable Commission to produce A
Walk in the Park: a step-by-step tour of the San Dieguito River Park.
Pete Glaser announced the award and said he and Producer Susan Switzer
would meet with Barry Fraser of the Commission the first week in March.
AWARDS
Award contest fees of $160 were approved to enter
two productions each in the Hometown Festival Awards and the Telly
Awards. Pete Glaser will make the final decisions about which shows to
enter.
COMMUNITY CALENDAR
The Calendar is now available on the web, on TV,
and in the Sandpiper. A
Steering Committee, representing the five, not-for-profit, Del Mar
organizations that comprise the original Calendar membership, decides
which events are listed. It is anticipated that the Calendar will
continue to grow and include many more organizations and that an
interactive component can be added whereby “chat rooms” about Del
Mar events can take place.
DATABASE
Pete says the database is going online right after
this meeting.
PRODUCERS SHOWCASE
Susan Switzer announced that Eileen, Jack and
Rosemary are producing a show entitled "Health Watch Del
Mar/Obesity in Children" on February 13. There will be three guests
(a hypnotherapist, a pediatrician and a nutritionist); Jack will host;
and Philippe will direct. Ideas for future shows are encouraged!
WEBSITE
With an eye to ultimately providing streaming
video, Pete Glaser and Philippe Lamoise consulted with experts at UCSD.
They will continue to work on state-of-the-art improvements to
www.delmartv.com.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
